Jackson ran his season best at the Midwest Regionals, finishing in 21:31.
Amy and I very much enjoyed getting to watch him race. Ben meanwhile is in
Tennessee on a trip with his grandparents, aunts and cousins. Jackson spent his
evening at his friend Grey's house, which left Amy and I alone to hand out
candy. We spent much of the night visiting with our neighbors the Bevards
as they flamed their giant pumpkin.

Friday, October 30, 2015. Amy,
Jackson, River and I hustled after work to Kibler Valley. We built a fire
in the fire pit and cooked our dinner in foil packs.
Thursday, October 29th, 2015. This
is the view as we leave our neighborhood.
Wednesday, October 28th, 2015. Amy and I took River for his first trip to the river.
Monday, October 26, 2015. Jackson
pulled an all-nighter to complete two homework assignments. Hopefully a
lesson will be learned there about procrastination. Although, it seems
like this has happened before.
Sunday, October 25, 2015. River and Daisy are starting to calm down a little, but not a lot. The only time I can catch them moving slow enough for a photo is when they are sleeping. Daisy will be staying with us until Tuesday.
Saturday, October 24, 2015. I was able to run up to Kibler to join my friend Vince for a late afternoon float down the valley. The color in the trees was fantastic, I snapped photos the whole way down the river. When I wasn't taking photos, I was playing. Vince and I got a lot of surf, splat, squirt time in.
I picked up Mo on my way back to town so that the family could take her out to dinner for her birthday. We had a nice meal at Sagebrush, then dropped Jackson off at his friend Grey's house. The afternoon started with Ben's tournament game. We lost 3-4, but played really hard till the very end, so I was proud.
Thursday, October 22nd, 2015. Photos
from the Northwest Conference XC Championship.
And photos of Amy and River watching a RCC soccer game. Later in the evening, River's sister Daisy visited our house. She will be staying with us until Tuesday while her family is out of town.
Tuesday, October 20th, 2015. River has put himself in his crate the past three school mornings. Once he sees us scurrying around to put on shoes and pack up book-bags, he walks into the kennel and lays down on his pillow. Pretty smart dog.
Sunday, October 18th, 2015. After
church, Jackson and I threw football, then Ben and I went to the soccer field to
kick. After that, Amy and I took River for a play-date with his sister
Daisy at the Youell's.
We then went to the corn maze in Ararat, Virginia with the Beacons. This has become a tradition that our family really enjoys.
October 17th, 2015. Ben scored an amazing goal in his RCC team's win
this morning, then scored in his indoor team's win in the very next hour.
He then traveled to Charlotte with his school to watch the Hornets play.
Jackson had friends Robert, Tanner and Grey over for the night.
Friday, October 16th, 2015.
And more River photos.
Monday, October 12th, 2015. While I
was camping at Russell Fork with friends Joe, John, Will and others, Amy, Ben
and Jackson were helping park cars at our church during the Autumn Leaves
Festival. My friend John broke his ankle, so I returned early, which
allowed me to sell drinks with Ben for his Boy Scout troop.
Friday, October 9th, 2015. More
Thursday, October 8th, 2015. A visit from Amy's good friend Cruz. River really liked Cruz a lot.
October 7th, 2015. 5-2 victory over Chili Rojo. First win!
The team played great. Liam scored a hat trick, Donovan scored his first
goal, as did Devon. The defense played more conservatively which helped
and the offense passed the ball. Lots of hustling by all the players.
They also laughed a lot. I
thought Ben played superbly, pulling 4 quarters at forward. He had
multiple shots that either just missed the upper corner or were stopped by the
goalie. Deana and Mo came to watch. The photos below are from Deana.
4th, 2015. We have had River for one week now and things are going great.
And we are very happy that his sister was adopted by friends of ours, so he will
get to see her from time to time.
3rd, 2015. Conditions at the Hagan Stone XC Classic were brutal, muddy, slippery, cold and
according to Jackson, fun. The race was actually held at Beeson Park, due
to the weather. The coach could not make it, so we arrived
early to pick up the race packet and to setup a pop-up tent. After the
wind almost blew our canopy away, we moved it alongside a fence so that I could
tie it down. After we got there, we learned that the rest of his team
decided not to run that day, so he was the lone competitor from Mount Airy.
I was super proud of Jackson's commitment. It is the type of lesson that
will carry through to other parts of his life. At 22:49, Jackson's time
was off a minute from his last race, but considering the conditions, I thought
he did fantastic. Plus he ran almost two minutes faster than he did at the
same course a month ago. He finished covered in mud and soaking wet.
It should be a XC race that will stick out in his memory.
Thursday, October 1st, 2015. Still taking lots of River photos, as I know he will not be a puppy for long. Smokey came by for a visit today and at four months old, he is already a full sized dog. It is hard to believe how much he has grown since the last time I saw him.
