Sunday, November 29th, 2015. Here are a couple more photos from our visit to Colonial Heights and a couple of photos from Ben's Boy Scout meetings. .
Saturday, November 28th, 2015. I started the day by kayaking in Kibler Valley, we then watched the Hokies beat UVA in football, sending Frank Beamer out with a win in his last regular season game. The second the game was over, we headed to Fancy Gap to pick out this year's tree at Slaughter's Tree Farm. By bedtime we had the tree in the house, lights on it and about half the ornaments. It was a fun, productive day.
Thursday, November 26th, 2015. For the second year in a row, we celebrated Thanksgiving at Alan and Charla's house. The food was fantastic, the company great, River traveled well and behaved himself while visiting. River and I went on a walk to the river that morning, then ran bandit for part of the Turkey Trot 5K. Ben, Jackson, Jimmy and I shot basketball at Tussing, then after dinner and the Cowboy's game, Nicole joined Amy, Jackson, Ben and I when we went to see Creed at the movies.
Wednesday, November 18th, 2015. We celebrated Caleb's birthday at the Mexican restaurant in Stuart following his team's scrimmage against Floyd. We also got to catch up with some of the old Prowl gang. Hunter, Seth, Brandon and Dillon all play on the varsity team and Logan plays JV.
Tuesday, November 17th, 2015. Both boys had their first RCC basketball practices tonight. I am coaching Jackson again and am helping coach Ben's team. I am never good at predicting wins and losses, but Jackson's team looks pretty solid. Even better than that though, it is a great group of kids, almost all of whom I have already coached. We have Scout and Malcolm back from last year's championship team and Harrison and Corbin from our 2012 Jr Hoop's team. Christian played on Ben's team last year and moved up to Sr Hoops this year, plus we have Shamar, who is a fun kid. So it should be a fun season. I am still getting to know Ben's team, so it is too early to predict how his season will go. The kids all seam nice, so hopefully it will be a fun year for him too.
Monday, November 16th, 2015. River has been with us now for seven weeks. He was approximately 8 weeks old when we got him, which means he is closing in on four months old. He is a good little fellow. He goes into his crate on his own each morning before we leave. We can open the door to let him out each morning. When I open it back up a few minutes later, he is waiting on the step to come back in.
November 11, 2015. I took a vacation
day since Amy, Jackson and Ben were all off for Veteran's Day. We spent
part of it with River at Pilot Mountain. The temps were above 70, making
it a great day for a hike. More photos
Earlier in the day, Amy and I went for a short run. I am trying to take baby steps back toward running, paying very close attention to how my torn groin muscle feels. We also sat out in the sun with the chickens and River in the backyard. Later that evening, Ben had Skills and Drills for Junior Hoop basketball at RCC. Hopefully it will be a fun season for him, I like the coach that he got and was proud that he was drafted in the first round.
Monday, November 9th, 2015. More photos can be found here from the backpacking trip Ben and I took at Doughton Park over the weekend. This was our 2nd BSA camping trip with Troop 596 and our first backpacking trip. The rookies made a 1.6 mile hike into base camp while the more experienced scouts hiked 6 miles down from the top of the mountain at the Blue Ridge Parkway. It rained most of the day, but the kids had a lot of fun. I passed the time by chopping firewood and building a camp chair. Ben handled the hike like a pro, finishing at the front of the group on both the way in and the way out. His pack was comfortable and he handled it like a pro. I was very proud of him. We were in our bed asleep by 7pm and slept almost until 7am. We also got to try dehydrated food for the first time (Ben's Chicken Alfredo was pretty good). Unfortunately we found out that Amy was sick back home with a stomach bug, so we headed straight back to town once we exited the woods.
