Monday, May 30th, 2016. I paddled with friends at Foster Falls, then went on a nice bike ride with Ben and Amy on the Ararat Greenway.
Sunday, May 29th, 2016. We celebrated Ben's birthday at home with a soccer ball cake and steak. Well, he had steak, we ate hotdogs. On Saturday, he played indoor soccer, then celebrated with our extended family at Kyotos, before going to see Captain America: Civil War with his immediate family. Mo brought him a strawberry shortcake, as she did Jackson on his birthday. Ben spent Sunday shopping with his Aunt Deana, where he picked up some new soccer cleats, a new bike and a new soccer goal. I spent the day paddling at Wilson Creek.
Friday, May 27th, 2016. Hard to believe I now have two teenagers!
Wednesday, May 25, 2016. We wrapped up another fun Spring Rec soccer season. It was a good season with lots of wins (a 6-2 regular season), played amongst good friends. The parents for our team were great and I could not have asked for a better coach than Jackson. He kept things fun and stress free, while still coaxing hard play and effort from the team. It was a really good experience. The team finished as runner ups in the tournament, Ben scored 9 goals this season, that was up 6 from his fall season so he is progressing. He also had a super partner on offense, Austin, who scored an amazing 24 goals. In addition to that very productive duo, we had 5 other players score goals. Our friend and neighbor Jack was the best goalie in the league and just from one end of the field to the other, the team was full of hard working, great players. More soccer update's here.
Sunday, May 22nd, 2016. We spent a
great day as a family fishing at the Moorefield
Place. Amy packed a great lunch, Papa stopped by, River had the best
day of his life. Ben fished and caught two bluegills, plus one beautiful bass.
Jackson worked on getting River to swim. It was a breezy, cool blue sky
day. We should get over there more often.
May 21, 2016. Ben's indoor team
bounced back with a vengeance from last week's loss, scoring 20 goals while only
giving up 4. I shot
some video this
week and it shows Ben scoring 4 goals and making
4 assists, Yair scores 5, plus 1 assist, Brandon O scored 2 with 1 assist, Juan
scored 1 and our other Brandon scored 3. The other 5 goals would have belonged
to the other guys, as all of Ben's were caught on camera.
Neri played fantastic in the goal. We were missing Brian and
Leo for this game.
Sunday, May 15th, 2016. I am back
home following a week working in New England. I left around 3am Monday
morning and pulled back into the drive around 12:30 Saturday morning. The
week was mostly full of 13-14 hour workdays, but I did find a couple of
opportunities to do some exploring in southern Vermont and upstate
Massachusetts. Catamount State Forest sits just minutes from our office in
Colrain, so I was able to go on a trail run there, see my first ever porcupine
in the wild and to go for a swim. I always enjoy the shops, restaurants
and people in Shelburne Falls. And I took one evening to make the scenic
drive up to Wilmington Vermont, where I hiked to the top of Haystack Mountain.
Saturday, May 7th, 2016. Two soccer games, then baseball that evening with folks from my office. Great night for baseball. Jackson chose to stay in town to hang out with friends, so Ben invited his buddy Matthew.
Ben had an outdoor game at 1 and an indoor game at noon. We got to they gym early, at 11. Ben played a pickup game for an hour, scoring 4 goals, and was warmed up by the time his game started. I told him that he would only have time to play the first half. He said "Well, I better score a hat trick early then." At five minutes into the game, he had scored three goals giving his team a 3-0 lead. By fourteen minutes in, he had scored SIX goals. The score was 8-2 when we left at the half. Probably the best soccer Ben has played, he couldn't miss. That gave him his 6th hat trick and 30 goals in 12 games. We later learned that the team did continue their excellent play and won the game. Ben's outdoor team won their game as well, 4-0. Ben played great and scored in the closing minutes.
Here is a picture of both boys driving this
Friday, May 6th, 2016. NorthWest Conference Championship. Jackson finished his Sophomore season with his 2nd straight PR in the 3200. This time he knocked off an impressive 24 seconds to finish in 11:39. Really, really proud of him for the race he ran tonight. He only ran the one event tonight and simply crushed it. His first and last laps were his fastest with really solid laps in between. The boys team placed 3rd in the conference, the girls finished 1st.
Thursday, May 5th, 2016. On Tuesday, Jackson turned 16 and went to see Beyonce in Raleigh with three friends. I drove them down, which was good because it stormed the entire way. Then today he got his driver's license!
Sunday, May 1st, 2016. We went to Westwood Park on Thursday to watch our buddy Nolan play tee-ball, then went to Kyoto's with the family on Friday to celebrate Jackson's birthday.
