Sunday, March 29th, 2015. Busy day. I started with a mile run, then went to Church followed by some time outside with Amy watching the chickens, then some yard work (mowed for the first time), disc golf with Jackson, rolled my kayak at the pool, then grilled burgers. Amy took Ben to the soccer field for some practice, he has his first game on Tuesday.
28th, 2015. Jackson ran in two events at the Mighty Viking Invitational and
knocked out PRs in both. He ran the 1600 in 5:38 and the 800M in
2:33. That trimmed 11 seconds off his 1600 time and 14 seconds off his
800. Fantastic. It was cold and windy at North Stokes, with temps
that did not leave the 30s. The field was crowded with more 4A schools
than 1A. Only two freshman finished ahead of him in the 1600 and he beat 8
runners, coming in 25th out of 33. Not bad at all considering the
competition he was facing. He battled a runner from Davie county the last
100 meters. He managed to hold him off and to overtake the runner in front
of him right at the finish line as all three runners finished within 3/10s of a
second of each other.
Later that evening, in celebration of our 17th wedding anniversary, Amy and I went to Pilot Mt for dinner at Soppers.
Monday, March 23rd, 2015. Jackson woke early on
Saturday to run 6 miles with Matthew, then competed in the NorthWest Regional
Library's 2015 Quiz Bowl as part of the Mt Airy High School team. He was
the only freshman on the team, the other members were all juniors and seniors.
They did not win, but were competitive.
It was a beautiful weekend spent practicing soccer, playing basketball, throwing baseball, washing the truck, grilling out and relaxing. We watched movies together in the evening, Amy and I took multiple walks, sometimes with Ben joining us. I even ran for the first time in about thirty years.
Thursday, March 12th,
2015. Jackson ran a personal best in the
1600, 5:49, in his first high school track meet. The meet, hosted at South
Stokes, also fielded teams from Walkertown and Starmount.
Jackson also competed in the 3200 for the first time ever, coming in at 13:35. I was super proud of him and thought he race a fantastic mile, sticking to his pace and displaying a great kick in the last 100 meters. More details here.
Ben and I left the meet early so that he could attend his first ever Boy Scout meeting, along with his fellow Pack 538 WEBELOS.
Saturday, March 7th, 2015. I spent a glorious day paddling one of my favorite creeks, Whitetop Laurel, in Damascus, Virginia with good friends Joe, John, Joey, Kevin and Vince. I broke my GoPro mount while upside down at The Slot, but other than that, it was a perfect, albeit cold, day.
Sunday, March 1st, 2015. Photos from the FPCMA Variety Show. Amy cooked for it that afternoon while the boys and I played at the house.
