Thursday, June 30th, 2016. Ben, Amy and I went to Kibler Valley to pick berries for a pie and on the way River opened the passenger window with his paw and fell out of the truck. Luckily I was able to grab one paw before he disappeared completely. He survived unscathed and had fun at the river, although he still refuses to swim.
Jackson spent much of the month of July playing basketball with the high school team. He had a camp at Wake Forest, plus games at South Stokes and Starmount.
Thursday, June 23rd, 2016. The boys
wrapped up another season at the Northwest Basketball Academy. This year
Jackson was a ref/coach, while Ben played ball.
Wednesday, June 22nd, 2016. The Heaths were back on site #47 this year, which is where we camped in 2014. The Fortins were once again our neighbors. We arrived around 1:30, quickly setup camp, then headed up river with tubes. My friend Lucas joined Jackson and I for a run at the top. From there, Amy, Ben and Jackson continued to camp while, Lucas, Joe and I went to the Upper Nantahala where we joined Greg and Donna for a late evening run. Saturday afternoon was spent on the Tuckasegee with even more friends. That evening we joined the Fortins for pizza at Rivers End and spent time relaxing by the river. We stopped again at Soda Pops back in Bryson City for ice cream, then capped the evening off with banana boats in the campfire. A highlight this year were the four new baby goats, one of which was born while we were there. I woke Sunday early and made a run from camp to the bridge at the top section of the creek in the park. My gang had to leave not long after that so that we could get back to town to pick up River and get Jackson to a basketball meeting, but we did stop off at Phil's BBQ in Black Mountain for our traditional meal on the way home, which happened to fall on Father's Day this year.
Saturday, June 11th, 2016. A
fun day spent on the Hanging Rock section of the Dan River. We spent hours
jumping off rocks, including a 50 foot jump that Jackson made three times.
Ben made the climb up to the 20 foot jump spot, which was really impressive.
Saturday, June 4th, 2016. Our nephew Caleb's graduation!
