Saturday, January 30th, 2016 - Stellar sports day for Ben.  After staying up until 6am at his youth group lock-in, he scored three goals in a 1:00 soccer game, then scored 9 points in his 2:15 basketball game.  And he won them both!  It was a rough basketball game from the start.  Ben was hurt twice in the first half.  He hurt his knee when he fell after being accidentally tripped.  Then, right after scoring 7 points on three great shots in the 2nd quarter, he hit his head hard on the floor after being pushed down.  He had to leave the game and sat with an ice-pack on it during half-time, but went back in at the start of the 3rd quarter.  He finished as his team's leading scorer with 9 points.

Mo was at both games and got to see Ben's soccer hat trick.   He scored twice off corner kicks, with one of those coming off a header.  His other goal was from far out to the side.  Juan was on fire too, scoring 4 goals.  More photos here.

Friday, January 29th, 2016.   The Heaths joined the Beacons for our first trip to an ice skating rink (2nd trip for Jackson) and our first hockey game.  The game did not start until 10:15 and did not end until around 1:30.  Ben took his friend Matthew R and Jackson enjoyed getting to see Sam, Jack and Justin who were in from college.  Ben finished his morning at a lock-in at the Lighthouse.

Thursday, January 28th, 2016 - 35-43 loss.  4-4 for the season.  Jackson and Matthew have been the two best point guards in the league for the past three years and this was more than likely their last game squaring off against each other as Matthew ages out next season.  They both gave it %100, as always.  It will most likely be the last time my buddy Tony and I will coach against each other.  Neither of us have managed to sweep the other in our three seasons of play and this season was no exception.  A combination of great defense by them and poor offense by us led to our defeat.  We met in the championship game the past two years, although I don't think the stars will align for that to happen again as Jason's team will more than likely take up one of those spots this season.  It was a tough game.  Jackson led all scorers with 13 points, Harrison and Malcolm each scored 10 and Corbin had 2.  As a contrast, Jackson scored 34 points by himself two games ago, so this was definitely far below our average output.  With one game left for the rest of the league, Jackson sits 2nd in overall scoring at 21.6 pts a game.

Wednesday, January 27th, 2016. No one was a bigger fan of our recent snowfall than River.

Tuesday, January 26th, 2016. We awoke Friday to a nice, deep snow.  It continued to snow and sleet through that day and into the night.  The first day brought early sledding on Broadcaster Hill, then late day sledding on Margaret.  Day two found the entire neighborhood again sledding on an icy Margaret Drive.  Jackson and I used an iPhone app that night to clock our speeds at 29 mph.  On Sunday, the road was getting rough, but the sledding on Broadcaster was great, plus the sun was out and the air warm.  Susan brought out materials for snow cones and our buddy Nolan came over for some afternoon sledding.  It was a really fun time in the neighborhood.  The kids were out of school until Thursday and had a two delay then.  Many, many more photos
here.

Thursday, January 21st, 2016.  - 57-67 loss This team is undefeated for  a reason and, although we played them tough and led early in the 2nd quarter, we were not able to come away with the win.  Gabriel is a very talented player and scored 40 points.  Jackson led our team with 21, Harrison scored 17, Malcolm 14 and Corbin 4.  Jackson was in foul trouble for most of the game, but played great.

Sunday, January 17, 2016. A brief early morning snowfall.  It melted within minutes, but the chickens and the pup got out early enough to enjoy it.

Saturday, January 16, 2016. Huge day.  Ben and I camped at Raven Knob with Troop 596 last night.  This morning, Ben participated in his first Klondike Derby, while I headed back to town to coach Jackson's 10:00am Sr Hoops basketball game.  Jackson scored a career high 34 points in our 57-55 win and played just phenomenal in all parts of the game.  From there, he went to Stuart to spend the day with his uncle Martin.  I went back to Raven Knob to pick Ben up for his 1:15 Jr Hoops basketball game. Amy made it back from Stuart just in time for the game to start.  Ben got in early foul trouble and had to sit much of the 3rd quarter, but when he came back in he scored 6 points and helped his team push ahead for the win.  His team moved into 1st place with the win and now have a 3-1 record.  He spent the rest of the afternoon with his buddy Matthew, then went to the movies with him that evening.  I returned once again to Raven Knob to help cook dinner for the troop.  It was a really fun, really busy day. Ben's patrol won three 1st place, two 2nd place and one 3rd place event ribbons.   (More Jr Hoops photos here)

Below are photos from Jackson's 34 point game.

Thursday, January 14, 2016. Deana took the photos below during Jackson's 50-40 win.  He didn't score near his average this time, but he played excellent in all other facets.  Deana, Martin, Papa, Caleb, Izzy, Amy and Ben were all in the stands cheering for him.

Sunday, January 10, 2016.  Let's see... as the new year started, Jackson had surgery to fix his broken nose, Ben had a stomach bug, the fuel pump stopped working in the van, our brother-in-law Martin tore an artery while exercising, suffered a stroke and is now home recovering and doing great, River spent a day at the vet getting fixed and we ran into the garage door.
