Sophmore Season (2015 Fall)
Season Record 21:31

October 31, 2015. Midwest Regionals. Jackson, Matthew, Griffin and Jo again competed.  Jackson ran his season best at 21:31, finishing in a strong sprint in the last one hundred yards.  Jo finished 2nd in regionals and advances to state.

October 21, 2015. Northwest Conference Championship.  Jackson, Matthew, Griffin ran for the boys team.  Jo ran for the girls and won the conference championship for the second year in a row, clocking in at 21:06.  Dalton had an injury, but came to support the team.  I guess Grant quit.  Jackson ran a 22:23, Matthew a 20:36 and Griffin a 24:14.  That has everyone about two minutes off where they were at this time last year.

October 3, 2015. Hagan Stone XC Classic.  The race was moved to Beeson Park due to the weather.  Conditions were brutal, muddy, slippery, cold and according to Jackson, fun.  The coach could not make it, so we arrived early to pick up the race packet and to setup a pop-up tent.  After the wind almost blew our canopy away, we moved it alongside a fence so that I could tie it down.  After we got there, we learned that the rest of his team decided not to run that day, so he was the lone competitor from Mount Airy.  As a matter of fact, the entire field was greatly reduced.  Out of a potential 385 runners, only 89 ran.  And that was after they combined the JV race with the Champions race.  I was super proud of Jackson's commitment.  It is the type of lesson that will carry through to other parts of his life.  At 22:49, Jackson's time was off a minute from his last race, but considering the conditions, I thought he did fantastic.  Plus he ran almost two minutes faster than he did at the same course a month ago.  He finished covered in mud and soaking wet.  It should be a XC race that will stick out in his memory.

September 19, 2015. Freedom Invitational.  Jackson knocked almost 3 minutes off his season best and 51 seconds off his time at Freedom last year, finishing in 21:48.  His coach said he ran a great race.  Earlier in the week Jackson was honored at a high school assembly for finishing his Freshman year with a 4.4 GPA.  I could not be any prouder of his hard work.

September 8th, 2015.  Fisher River Invitational.  The course was much improved over last year, with a really cool section that traversed a creek twice and forced the athletes to either jump up a bank or climb it.  It was incredibly hot and muggy though, not the best conditions to run in.  Finishing order for the Bears: Matthew (21:02, 14pts), Dalton (21:54, 23pts), Jackson (24:21, 41pts), Grant (27:49, 50pts) and Griffin (30:22, 51pts).  There were 88 competitors from 8 teams, with 51 scoring points.  Jackson finished in the 54th position.

August 28th, 2015.  After a summer that involved a lot of time away and far less running than last summer, it was, not unexpectedly, a less than stellar performance by Jackson and the MAHS XC team.  They also lost 5 runners from last year.  They picked up one, Grant, but it leaves them undermanned as a team.  Mt Airy placed last out of the 14 teams competing, with an average time of 24:02 and a total score of 339.  The average time in the first meet last year was 21:28, so they are a good bit off the pace at this point this year.  Plenty of time to pick things up though.  Finishing order for the Bears: Dalton (21:32, 39pts), Matthew (21:55, 44 pts), Jackson (24:34, 81pts), Griffin (24:43, 82pts), Grant (27:26, 93pts)
