Mount Airy High School - Track and Field 2016
North Carolina 1A State Champions!

The Boys team continued onto states and came home with the championship!

May 6, 2016. Conference Championship.  Jackson finished his Sophomore season with his 2nd straight PR in the 3200. This time he knocked off an impressive 24 seconds to finish in 11:39. Really, really proud of him for the race he ran tonight.  He only ran the one event tonight and simply crushed it.  His first and last laps were his fastest with really solid laps in between.  The boys team placed 3rd in the conference, the girls finished 1st.

April 21, 2016. 2nd place and a big PR in the 3200!  Jackson finished in an amazing 12:03, beating his old PR by 8 seconds.  He also ran his second fastest 1600, finishing in 5:36.  The Mt Airy Boys won the meet too, so it was a great night all the way around.

April 11, 2016. Both the Mount Airy boys and girls teams won the Surry County Track and Field Championship, hosted by Mount Airy.  Jackson was close to PRs in both of his events.  He ran a 5:39 in the 1600, finishing 9th out of 16 runners, 6 seconds off his PR.  He ran a 12:19 in the 3200, just 8 seconds off his PR.

April 7, 2016. Jackson ran well on a cold, windy home meet against Adkins, North Stokes and Galax. His 1600 time was 5:52, he ran 12:55 in the 3200. Both the boys and girls teams won the meet.

March 23, 2016. A PR in the 1600.  5:33, 5 seconds better than last year's 5:38.  It was a really fast race, with runners from Bishop-McGuinness, North Stokes and Walkerton.  Jackson also ran a great 3200 too, finishing in 12:20, which was a season best and not far off his PR.  Both the boys and girls Mt Airy teams finished 2nd in the meet.

March 10, 2016 - South Stokes High School.  Attendees were Mount Airy, South Stokes, Atkins and Walkertown.  The weather was near perfect and both Mount Airy teams did great.  Jackson ran the 1600 in 5:50 and the 3200 in 12:42.  I thought he did great for the first meet of the year. The Mount Airy Boys team came in last with 47 Pts, but the girls came in first with 93.  The girls won the most points in every category; sprints, distance, hurdles, relay, throwing and jumping.

Mount Airy High School - Track and Field 2015

May 1, 2015.  Jackson closed out his freshman season with an amazing PR in the 3200.  He improved an incredible 1 minute and 24 seconds, completing the race in 12:11.  Could not be any more proud of how hard he ran in that race.  His 1600 time was 5:48, his 3rd best time of the season.  The Boys Team finished 3rd in the conference, the girls tied for 2nd.

April 23, 2015. versus N Stokes and W-S Prep at N Stokes, plus a few Patrick County runners. Both boys and girls teams came in 2nd to N Stokes.  Jackson competed in three events.  He ran 5:51 in the 1600, placing 6th out of 9 runners and won an exciting battle down the final stretch.  He ran 2:49 in the 800M and ran 2:47 in his leg of the 4X800.

April 16, 2015.  Mt Airy Home Meet vs W-S Prep, Walkertown and Atkins.  A cold, rainy evening not very suited to running, or at least not to running fast.  The kids were troopers and slogged their way through their events, but I am not sure if any PRs were broken.  Deana came to watch and shared some of the better photos below.  Jackson ran the 1600 in 5:57 and the 800 in 2:44. While not PRs, it was his 3rd fastest mile ever.  Both the MAHS boys and girls teams took first place in the meet.  The boys scored 84 points, Atkins scored 50.5, Walkertown 40 and Prep 10.5.  This was the 2nd team win in a row for the boys team. The girls have won all 4 of their 5 meets, with the Viking Invitational being the only miss.

April 1, 2015. Jackson was not able to attend this meet at Bishop McGuinness, but the Boys team won with 53 pts.  East Surry scored 49 and Bishop scored 45.

March 31, 2015.  Surry County Track Championship - East Surry.  Jackson rushed to Pilot Mt from his "behind the wheel" driver's education class, only to find that the meet was running really slowly and it would be a long time before his events.  Running so soon after his last meet, he did not PR, but ran really well in all events.  He ran 5:44 in the 1600 meters, 2:36 in the 800 and won a 3rd place medal in the 4X400.  Dalton ran the first leg, Jackson 2nd, Jack 3rd and Issiah ran anchor.

March 28, 2015. Jackson ran in two events at the Mighty Viking Invitational and knocked out PRs in both.  He ran the 1600 in 5:38 and the 800M in 2:33.  That trimmed 11 seconds off his 1600 time and 14 seconds off his 800.  Fantastic.  It was cold and windy at North Stokes, with temps that did not leave the 30s.  The field was crowded with more 4A schools than 1A.  Only two freshman finished ahead of him in the 1600 and he beat 8 runners, coming in 25th out of 33.  Not bad at all considering the competition he was facing.  He battled a runner from Davie county the last 100 meters.  He managed to hold him off and to overtake the runner in front of him right at the finish line as all three runners finished within 3/10s of a second of each other.

March 12, 2015. Jackson ran a personal best in the 1600, 5:49, in his first high school track meet.  The meet, hosted at South Stokes, also fielded teams from Walkertown and Starmount.    Joseph ran a 5:28, Mathew 5:37, Jackson 5:49, Isiah 5:51 and Joan 6:07.  Joseph scored 2 pts behind a 1st-3rd sweep.  In the girls 1600, Jo scored 6 pts, coming in 1st in 6:05 and Halee scored 4pts, coming in 2nd place with a time of 6:30.
Jackson also competed in the 3200 for the first time ever, coming in at 13:35.  Joseph placed 2nd with a time of 12:08, Matthew placed 4th at 12:42.  Halee won the girls 3200 with a time of 14:11.
In other events, our neighbor Jessica placed 1st in the triple jump (31-05.5) and first in the long jump (15-05), winning both by more than a foot.  Our XC friends Dalton and Jack placed 3rd and 4th in the 800.  Our girls team swept 1st-4th in the 400 meter dash.  Jo took 1st in the 800.  Mt Airy on the whole did very well, especially in the relays.  The boys placed 2nd behind South Stokes with a score of 69pts.  They crushed the competition in sprints with Cordell winning the 100, 200 and 400.  They trailed Walkertown in distance, scored 0 pts in hurdles, won the relays and were 2nd in throwing and jumping.  The girls won, scoring the most points in sprints, distance, relays and throwing.  They were 2nd in jumping, but scored 0 in hurdles.
