Thursday, August 29th, 2013. We have been very happy to have our little friend Nolan at the house some this week. He's just awesome. I also have a photo of the kitten that is temporarily staying with us until we find its new home.
Wednesday, August 28th, 2013. So far, so good. We are pleased with what we are seeing and hearing so far with Jackson's last year at the middle school. After being far from pleased with the level of challenge at the middle school, it appears that things are setup much better this year. Ben's teacher appears to be very nice, and while he does not have any of his best friends in his class, he does get to see them at recess, lunch and in the car line. I think it will be a much less stressful year for him this year. Soccer tryouts were last night, we are anxiously waiting to see which team he landed on. All of the coaches were great though, so there is no stress involved at all, just curiosity.
Monday, August 26th, 2013.
First day of school. Ben is in 4th and Jackson 8th. We are hoping
for good years for both boys on all fronts.
Ben and I squeezed in one last trip down the Ararat River before Summer Vacation ended.
Then on Saturday, we celebrated Grandma Sue's birthday by visiting the produce stand in Cana, followed by a hike on the New River Trail in Galax and dinner at McAdoo's. It had been 5 years since we last made that outing. Once we got home, Amy left for Pilot Mountain where kittens had been reported on the side of HWY52. She came home, then went back and eventually caught one little black and white wild child. She has been nursing it back to health over the last few days, but because it is feral, the kitten has remained in a crate. We are not sure what the rescue path for the kitten will be yet, but Amy is working hard on it. And then on Sunday we celebrated Rally day with FPCMA, played some basketball, went swimming and entered our draft results for this year's Heath Family NFL Fantasy Football season.
I made the following two timeline photos following our trip to Atlantic Beach.
Wednesday, August 21, 2013. For the 5th year in a row, our friends the Mosers were gracious enough to let us stay in their trailer at Atlantic Beach. This continues to be my favorite beach trip each year and Atlantic is now my favorite place to go. We had rain this year, but that enabled us to get out and do some fun things that we had not done before, like shopping in Beaufort and visiting the Maritime Museum. It was a great week filled with skim boarding, throwing the WaveRunner ball, frisbee, body surfng, kayak surfing, eating out, eating in, Texas Hold'em, Uno, magic and more. I have tons of photos here.
Monday, August 12, 2013. Last week while Jackson
was playing golf with Deana, Martin and Caleb, Ben and I hit the local par 3 for
some club time of our own.
Sunday, August 11, 2013. Deana and
Martin hosted a beer tasting party/competition at their house. It was lots
of fun and we enjoyed getting away for a couple of hours with other adults.
The boys have been in a picking stage for some time now, with Jackson picking on
Ben and Ben whining about it. There are times when it drives us crazy, so
an occasional break is much appreciated. The boys played at Melanie's
house and had a great time with their cousins.
This evening we celebrated dad's 69th birthday with a cookout at Hama's house. I think Hama enjoyed having everyone around and the kids had a great time.
Thursday, August 8, 2013. Baby Bronx turned two years old. The family celebrated with a party at his house that included lots of basketball for the older kids.
