April 30, 2016. Ben's 5th hat trick of 2016, bringing him to an awesome 24 goals in 11 games. And on top of that, it was one of the most exciting games I've seen. Watching the other team warm up, Jackson commented that it was a very noticeable mismatch, and not in Ben's favor. But with Ben and Leo at Forward, Juan and Brian at Fullback and Neri in the goal, they played outstanding. The other team's best player was in goal during the first half. But when they went down a couple of goals, he switched to offense. At first, he made a huge impact on the game, but he was not passing, so once Ben's team started double and triple teaming him, the game swung quickly in our favor. The other player became frustrated, gave up and was pulled by his coach. Neri was outstanding in the goal. All the guys worked great together. On one play, Leo brought the ball up on the left, passed to Ben in the middle, Ben one touched it back to Leo, Leo one touched it to Juan who was crashing the goal for the score. With no subs, they hustled hard and left the game soaked in sweat. Besides Ben's 3 goals, Juan and Leo scored 2 each.
Wednesday, April 27, 2016. Way to go Ben and Jackson. Team Omega moved into first place with their 6-3 win last night. Ben scored his 6th goal of the season on a beautiful punt from his friend Jack.
23, 2016. Ben is having a great soccer season so far. His indoor team
is 5-4-1 in games he has participated in. He has scored 21 goals in those
10 games. His outdoor team is 3-1 in league play, 3-2 overall. Ben
has scored 5 goals in those 5 games. Jackson is doing a great job of
coaching the team, I have been very proud of both boys.
Friday, April 22nd, 2016. While in Kinston, NC
on business, I hopped down to our favorite spot at Atlantic Beach, parking at
our friends trailer next to Oceana Pier. I was able to go for a run, play
my guitar on the beach and enjoy a great flounder plate cooked at the pier.
And while I did not get to see it, a humpback whale breached near the pier while
I was there.
Thursday, April 21, 2016. 2nd place and a big PR in the 3200! Jackson finished in an amazing 12:03, beating his old PR by 8 seconds. He also ran his second fastest 1600, finishing in 5:36. The Mt Airy Boys won the meet too, so it was a great night all the way around.
April 11, 2016. Both the Mount Airy boys and girls teams won the Surry County Track and Field Championship, hosted by Mount Airy. I am waiting to see Jackson's times, but he ran very strong in both the 1600 and the 3200. If he did not PR, he was close.
Jackson is staying super busy. He runs track, practices with the basketball team and coaches Ben's soccer team. He typically ends up doing all three on the same day.
Saturday, April 1st, 2016.
Jackson and I went on a great backpacking trip in Linville Gorge. On
Friday we hiked down to Babel Tower, setup camp, then hiked down to the river
for some swimming. On Saturday we packed our gear back up to the truck,
then drove out to Wiseman's View and stopped by Linville Falls on our way out.
Back in Mount Airy, Ben's friend Matthew stayed over. They had an indoor soccer game on Saturday. (more photos here)
