Thursday, April 30th, 2015. After a brief little thirty year break from running, I picked it back up just before we went on our cruise.  Amy and I ran each morning on the top deck of the cruise ship and when we returned, I started running in the neighborhood and on our town's walking trails.  My goal for my first month was to run at least 30 miles.  I clocked in yesterday at 36.5 miles, so that goal was met.  My longest run during the month was 5 miles, which I ran at an 8:23 pace.  I ran on 17 different days, so my average run was 2.15 miles.   Most of my long runs are around an 8:20 pace, while my shorter ones are around 7:40.  The first day that I ran, I completed one mile and it was tough.  I finished it in 8:37.  On my second run, s a benchmark, I ran a mile as fast as I could, which truly almost killed me. I clocked it at 7:34.  This past week I ran two miles at that pace and still had plenty in the tank, so I am pretty happy about the progress so far.  Yesterday I ran a 3.7 mile loop that took me up the hill to Main Street, then back down to MCA and around to our house.  The run had 314ft of elevation and I crossed the 3.1 mile mark at precisely 26:00.  So my 5K goal is to get under 25 minutes.  I signed up for two races next month, the Running of the Vines on the 16th and the Bulldog 5K on the 30th.  We'll see if I can hit my goal and if I am still running when next month rolls around, it could possibly be a short lived exercise.

On Saturday, I stopped by the Moore House to take prom photos of our friend Matthew and his date.

. Ben's team won tonight, moving them to 2-1-1 in league play.  Ben continues to play great in the forward position. (more photos here)

Saturday, April 25th, 2015.  Ben woke at Camp Raven Knob, went fishing in the rain, attended a WEBELOS meeting where he learned about bike repair, then played in a soccer game, then spent the afternoon playing with his friend Brett.  That evening he had to tag along with me when I went to the Moore house to take our friend Matthew's prom photos.  It was a busy day.    more camping photos at WEBELOS Last Hoorah - Apr 2015
Thursday, April 23rd, 2015.  Track meet against N Stokes and W-S Prep at N Stokes, plus a few Patrick County runners. Both boys and girls teams came in 2nd to N Stokes.  Jackson competed in three events.  He ran 5:51 in the 1600, placing 6th out of 9 runners and won an exciting battle down the final stretch.  He ran 2:49 in the 800M and ran 2:47 in his leg of the 4X800.

Tuesday, April 21st, 2015.  The posts continue to bounce between track and soccer.  Today it was Ben's turn as he took to the soccer field.  He actually went to the field after school to practice.  Then stayed after the game to continue playing soccer with his friend Dylan and with Peter from RCC.  Ben's team moves to 1-1-1 after a 1-4 loss to Frank Greenwood's Hodges Realty team. The game was actually much closer than the score indicates, but Hodges is definitely a very strong team.  Olivia scored the lone goal for our Aaron's Rent team.  Ben played 3 1/2 quarters at forward and played really well.  He moved the ball through defenders nicely, was in position to score multiple times and had a couple of nice shots on goal.

Thursday, April 16th, 2015.  Mt Airy Home Meet vs W-S Prep, Walkertown and Atkins.  A cold, rainy evening not very suited to running.  The kids were troopers and slogged their way through their events, but I am not sure if any PRs were broken.  Deana came to watch and shared some of the better photos below.  Jackson ran the 1600 and the 800.  Many more photos here.

Tuesday, April 14th, 2015. I got home from Charlotte just in time to watch Ben play in his second soccer game of the year.  He played great and it was a fun game that ended in a 2-2 tie.  (more photos here) We stayed to watch our neighbor Jack play in the next game.  Actually, we had tons of friends on both teams in the next game.

Sunday, April 12th, 2015. A couple of days before our cruise, Jackson competed in the Surry County Track and Field Championship at East Surry.  It was only three days after his race at South Stokes, so he did not PR this time, but still clocked in his 2nd fastest times ever in the 1600 and 800, plus he medaled in the 4X400 with Dalton, Jack and Issiah.

Saturday, April 11th, 2015. Amy and I both started exercising and dieting a month or so ago in preparation for our trip to The Bahamas.  We each lost about 10lbs, which was great.  And I started running for the first time since 10th grade in High School.  Amy and I woke early and ran on the cruise ship each morning and this morning I ran the length of the greenway along the Ararat River.  My goal is to run my first 5K in the next few months.

Today was simply gorgeous.  We worked in the yard, let the chickens roam around for hours, went on a walk with the kids to Walker's Soda Fountain for ice cream, cooked out.  Last night, after Jackson wrapped up his behind the wheel Driver's Ed training, we went to the Earl on Main Street to watch McFarland, USA.

Friday, April 10th, 2015. Most of the gang went to Atlantis on Easter Sunday, but Jackson, Papa and I went kayaking/snorkling on a beautiful morning on New Providence Island.  Jackson and I thoroughly enjoyed swimming over the reefs and with the multitudes of tropical fish.  Jackson and I hopped back on the ship for lunch, then rented a scooter and went exploring across the island.  We made a few laps through Nassau getting our bearings, then headed around the coast on West Bay Street.  A new, beautiful beach lay around almost every turn.  We picked out an empty one and spent the afternoon swimming in the clearest water on the planet.  It was a highlight of the trip.  We wrapped up our day with some shopping in Nassau, then caught up with Amy and Ben on the ship, just in time for dinner.  (more photos here)

Thursday, April 9th, 2015. We spent Saturday in Freeport on Grand Bahama Island, the site of Deana and Martin's wedding ten years ago.  Martin and Caleb went fishing, Mom stayed in a room at the Lucaya hotel and the rest of us went on an adventure looking for some fun in the sun on the beach.  We found a really fun, quaint beach just below the hotel.  Stingrays were swimming in the shallows, we bought necklaces from a very nice lady, we drank refreshing drinks made by a great personality that went by the name Coconut Daddy.  The boys snorkled around a section of reef trying to catch glimpses of tropical fish, we swam, threw the wave runner ball and basically had a fantastic day.  We later met up with Martin and Caleb at the straw market, then caught a taxi back to the ship.  (many more photos here)

Wednesday, April 8th, 2015. We are back from a wonderful cruise to The Bahamas.  The trip was a gift from Deana and Martin and in celebration of their 10th Wedding Anniversary.  We also celebrated Amy's birthday, Izzy's birthday, Easter and the day that Amy and I met!
